Providing Power Over Ethernet to Silicon Dust HDHomeRun EXTEND
30 Jun 2017I installed a HDHomeRun EXTEND (HDTC-2US-M) with an Antennas Direct DB4e and a VHF Antenna Retrofit Kit.
Since the EXTEND ships with a 12V 1.5A power supply with a 3.5mm x 1.35mm tip, I used an 802.3at 12V/2A PoE splitter with a 5.5mm x 2.1mm to 3.5mm x 1.35mm tip adapter.
Power Usage
The 802.3at PoE splitter was attached to a PowerDSine PD-9012G PoE midspan. I (unscientifically) measured this power consumption of the EXTEND from the midspan:
- 5.4w - idle
- 8.2w - watch 1 channel in HDHomeRun tuner app
- 7.2w - 1 tuner active, not streaming
- 8.5w - 1 tuner, original format (Plex) recording
- 9.5w - 2 tuners, original format (Plex) recording
- 8.5w - 10.1w - 1 tuner, highest quality (Plex) recording
- 12w - 2 tuners, highest quality (Plex) recording
