Clean install of Windows 10 on Surface 3
15 Aug 2016I did a clean reinstall of Windows 10 on my Surface 3 (non-Pro).
- Grab a 64-bit version of Windows 10 ISO. 32-bit media will not work, even if your device has <= 4GB of RAM.
- Install Rufus and use it to make a bootable USB key. Use an UEFI format.
- Shut down the Surface.
- Press and hold the volume-up button.
- With the volume-up button held down, press the Power button until you see the Surface logo.
- Configure
Alternate System Boot Order
, and selectNetwork > USB > SSD
. - Attach the USB key.
Exit
Setup, andSave
the configuration.- Press and old the volume-down button.
- While holding volume-down, press the power button.
- The device will boot off the USB key.
- While the install is proceeding, download the Surface 3 (Wi-Fi only) drivers.
- After install, shut down the Surface and revert the
System Boot Order
change above.
